The ICO issued a joint statement on ‘age assurance’ aka privacy invading digital ID. Their odd position is now people must go through privacy invading procedures to ‘protect their data’ and to be sure users are > 13 years old. Well, we don't decide what the customers decide to ship, or where it goes. We don't enforce policy like that; our job is just to provide a neutral platform for others to use to accomplish their goals. We don't even know what they ship - we just build the train cars. If they really cared for safety, why aren' pron sites restricted to only .xxx domains. Easy to block and filter. Solved! Get it? Politics only solve things for control, not to solve them.

@opensuse and @fedora a question for you: are you going to implement the age verification thing that will be part of the systemd and one of the ways the governments try to control how we use our computers? I don't need a philosophical/complicated answer. Just a yes or a no will suffice. So that I/we know where to go from here.

I've been a user and supporter of open source since 1998. I've been using all kinds of distros over the years, but this is becoming one of the worst periods of time I've lived and losing one more thing to right wingers and billionaires makes me angry and upset.

Take action! What’s the problem? The Government has proposed amendments to the Children Wellbeing and Schools Bill, which would give Ministers the power to restrict access to "internet services". This is supposed to give the Government the power to ban under 16s from social media but “internet services" is a very broad definition, which means any online platform can be included. The wording of the amendment means they could do this without even having to prove that these sites are harmful for children.

This is unfortunate.
Governments are forcing #Enshitification "improvments" as law now. This problem , in my opinion, was always ment to be solved between parents/guardians and the children they care for. Yet this is really about forcing everyone with digital access to add a new layer of documentation and now in a way that will be ever more risky to compromise and mis-use.

@why_not wieder zu kurz gedacht. Zentralisierte Social Media schadet jedem mit ihren undurchsichtigen Algorhitmen und der Kontrolle von Tech-Milliardären, nicht nur Kindern.

Diese gehört generell zerschlagen und demokratisiert oder verboten. Im Gegensatz zu den Ländern, wo wir das ohne zu zucken machen, wäre das hier angebracht.

Eine Alterssperre hat nur einen Sinn: Ausweisdaten aller Nutzer sammeln und verkaufen bzw. diese kriminalisieren.

Klares nein für #AgeGate.
