In the minds of our front line medical professionals we aren't "neurodivergent" until they "diagnose" us as such, but we know being neurodivergent isn't a medical condition. It isn't an illness but there are medical conditions which fall under neurodivergent umbrella, e.g., ASD, ADHD.
They should listen to what we say in order to better understand what it is to be neurodivergent and provide us with healthcare support tailored to our individual needs, but in their minds, we aren't neurodivergent. We're only neurodivergent when they diagnose us using the research other people have carried out to decide what they think it is to be neurodivergent.
Once "diagnosed" with a neurodivergent medical condition they'll follow whatever treatment plan their research books tell them is appropriate. We either accept the treatment or not. We don't matter. We're just another patient, and there's always another patient in their waiting room.
People with undiagnosed & untreated neurodivergent medical conditions usually have little to no influence in society. We're barely a step above psychiatric patients, and we all know from experience the lack of dignity and respect mentally ill patients are treated.
Anyway, take care, Tamtam.
