ROOM and Tuppence Collective bring nature into the workplace

**Promotion: **ROOM, a provider of modular workplace solutions, has announced the European launch of its Botanical Booth, which has a banana leaf-printed interior created by pattern designers Tuppence Collective.

ROOM's flagship modular product, the Phone Booth is designed to provide a soundproof private space for phone and video conferencing, as well as focused or creative tasks, within open office environments.

For Earth Month, ROOM partnered with Tuppence Collective to give the booth a botanical makeover. The brand wanted to bring calming features into a product category that is usually geared towards efficiency and "bring a hint of nature into the workplace which has been proven to increase creativity and boost productivity".

The Botanical Booth has a leaf-printed interior created by pattern designers Tuppence Collective

In the design of the collection, Tuppence Collective's founders, designers Alicia Perry and Rebecca Intavarant were inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement, particularly its use of natural motifs, and often create their patterns by hand.

"We chose to work with Alicia and Rebecca because their work represents nature and it reminds us of our connection to our planet as living beings," said ROOM vice-president of workspace strategy and design Alejandra Albarran.

"Introducing this pattern is also an effort to subtly create constant awareness of our impact on our environment and our responsibility as humans to respect, protect and preserve the natural world."

Tuppence Collective developed the botanic print from hand-painted illustrations

The tropical-inspired banana leaf print lines the interior walls of the Botanical Booth and is made from a series of paintings Tuppence Collective created using thick acrylics, which gives it "a very unique, illustrative look," according to Albarran.

The print creates a tranquil environment inside the booth, with a custom oak-veneered desk and built-in power sources for charging devices.

Other features of ROOM's booth include silent fans to ventilate the space and acoustic insulation made from recycled materials to block out noise from outside. There is also a motion sensor to activate the fans and lights, improving energy efficiency.

ROOM introduced the Botanical Booth in North America in 2018 and relaunched the limited edition piece in Europe during Earth Month, the month of activity surrounding Earth Day.

The design studio is inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and its approach to nature

The brand sees the booth as an example of biophilic design, using natural elements indoors, and is designed to reduce stress, increase productivity and motivation and boost creativity.

"Our Botanical Booth is one of the many workplace solutions from ROOM that companies can use to offer a better workplace experience, enabling businesses to create workplaces that make employees feel happy and valued at work, as well as making them more creative and productive," Albarran said.

"The nature-inspired pattern aims to counteract the stress of the built environment by offering a refuge of visual natural plants designed to soothe the mind on even the busiest of days."

The botanical print is available on Phone Booths with either a black or white exterior

ROOM aims for its designs to be sustainable, using more than 1,000 recycled plastic bottles in each booth and Repreve recycled polyester in its woven canvas interior lining.

Its Phone Booth was also the first in the industry to be Greenguard Certified, which means it has low chemical emissions for better indoor air quality.

The exclusive botanical print is available on Phone Booths with either a black or white exterior. The Botanical Booth is available for a limited time on the ROOM website.

Archie acoustic wall panels by The Collective Agency

Dezeen Showroom: designed to reference the movements of the sun and moon, The Collective Agency has created the Archie collection of acoustic wall panels that can be mix and matched.

Taking a playful approach to acoustic design, the Archie wall panels feature arched and spherical shapes, set like windows into a vertically grooved background that is reminiscent of wood panelling.

Archie can be mix-and-matched, such as in this combination of Phase and Solstice

There are three styles in the collection. Zenith looks like a series of arches and is said to represent "the highest overhead arch of the celestial sphere".

Solstice and Phase are an ode to the shape of the moon at different times of the month, with Solstice shaped as a perfect circle and Phase shaped as a semicircle.

The background panels are textured with a V-groove that makes them similar to wood panels

The styles can be combined across one wall, and can also be customised with a choice of two of 33 colours from the textile brand Woven Image's EchoPanel range.

The range is 60 per cent made from recycled plastic bottles, and the Echopanel Longitude panels used in the background are cut with vertical V-grooves that give a textural contrast.

Silent Room acoustic pod by Narbutas

Dezeen Showroom: workplace furniture brand Narbutas has added new customisation options to its Silent Room acoustic pods, offering a glass back wall for a transparent and light-filled office environment.

Narbutas' Silent Room acoustic pods create "a room within a room" in open workspaces, giving employees a private space to make calls, hold small meetings or focus on complex tasks.

A new customisation option for Narbutas' Silent Room pods allows for transparent glass walls on both sides

The new version of the pod has a transparent glass back-wall insert instead of the classic upholstered exterior back panel, which is a good option for settings where it would be undesirable to block light.

Narbutas suggests this option for the middle of open-plan workplaces or for areas that are close to windows or glass partitions.

The pods allow a quiet, private space for focused work or calls

As with all Silent Room variations, the pod comfortably fits up to four people and is equipped with USB type A and C connectors for charging devices.

It features low-noise fans that maintain good air quality and LED lamps that Narbutas says create a "warm and homely" atmosphere within, all kept at an optimal setting by smart controls.

Mute Fraction PET felt acoustic panel by De Vorm

Dezeen Showroom: De Vorm has released its latest acoustic panel, Mute Fraction, which is made from PET felt and based on a three-dimensional version of the golden ratio known as the plastic number.

The Mute Fraction PET felt acoustic panel has a distinctive pattern designed using this proportion system, which was put forward by Dutch architect and monk Dom Hans van der Laan in 1928 and sees the 3:4 ratio as the basis of harmonious composition.

The Mute Fraction panels can be placed horizontally or vertically

As with the golden ratio, van der Laan argued that elements that conform to the plastic number are pleasing to the human eye and don't feel out of proportion.

Following this principle led the De Vorm design team to the Mute Fraction panel, which consists of five unequal segments divided by five ribs.

The pattern is based on Dom Hans van der Laan's "plastic number"

The panel can be used vertically or horizontally and can be made to fit any surface, as all parts can be connected seamlessly.

The panel is the latest in De Vorm's Mute series of PET felt acoustic products and is available in a range of 11 colours.

Mute Fraction is made of recycled plastic bottles and is itself recyclable.

Acoustic Artwork noise minimisers by Narbutas

Dezeen Showroom: workplace furniture brand Narbutas has created three noise minimisers designed to control the sound and appearance of a room.

The Acoustic Artwork collection includes three acoustic products, called Partitions, Clouds and Tiles, which can be mounted on the wall or ceiling.

The collection includes Partitions

Available in a series of dynamic colours, the collection aims to provide attractive solutions to controlling the acoustics of office space while not compromising on aesthetics.

The partitions are designed to separate various working environments such as areas intended for meetings or socialising.

Acoustic Clouds hang from the ceiling and muffle noise

The Acoustic Partitions in the collection "are walls that speak for themselves" and are designed to manage the flow of movement in an office.

Owing to their name, the Acoustic Clouds hang from ceilings like chandeliers and efficiently absorb ambient sounds.

The Acoustic Tiles are also built to minimise unnecessary noise and come in five different shapes and a selection of sizes in order to cater to various office-based needs.

PET aims to be a sustainable material

Narbutas is committed to creating sustainable products. All of its acoustic noise minimisers are made from PET, which uses more than 50 per cent recycled plastic.
