dye/overdye
Linen, cotton, and perle cotton embroidery thread dyed with acorns and iron water. The fabric originally ranged from bright white to a light brown. The thread was various colors of red, rust, and a rather sad pink.

acorns & leaves - early experiments
In my early tries at contact leaf prints I had some accidental success when I printed on fabric dyed with acorns or onion skins then modified with iron. That led to many experiments with iron water, mostly failures, to get a good print on white fabric. Weeks later I finally figured out how to get prints with color.

rust on linen and cotton
For several years I’ve experimented with different materials - dyeing, printing, rusting, stitching - just to see what’s possible. As I learn new things I combine them to get more depth and texture. The grayish fabric underneath was dyed with acorns and then modified with iron to deepen the color. The fabric on top was folded then rusted.
