Na de Nationale Tuinvogeltelling, is het komend weekend de beurt aan de landelijke Mollentelling. Nu is een mol een stuk lastiger te tellen dan een vogel, want je ziet de beestjes niet zo vaak. Wat je wel ziet, zijn molshopen en die mag je ook doorgeven voor de telling.
The Northern Pintail and the Eurasian Teal are back in my #backyard ( The #Rottermeren area near #Zevenhuizen, South Holland, #Netherlands)
They now have their beautiful (summer) plumage again after the molting period during the summer months.

you'll immediately recognize the bird, this black-and-white bird with its curved beak and long, light-blue legs.
For several years now, they've been breeding in the wetlands here. And their numbers are increasing.

Cormorants hunt in large flocks, fishing for shallow water, which makes catching fish easier for the cormorant.
Great Egrets, Little Egrets, and Grey Herons gratefully take advantage of this to catch a fish.
I've never seen so many Great Egrets in my backyard. I counted over 33. Their numbers are increasing.

The Black-tailed Godwit is a large, slender wading bird with long legs and a straight beak.
The #BlacktailedGodwit is a true Dutch meadow bird and is found in large numbers in the peat meadows. After its winter migration, a few always come to rest and forage in my #backyard, the #Eendrachtspolder, before heading into the meadows to breed.
Elk voorjaar komen er Grutto's naar mijn #achtertuin om uit te rusten en te foerageren.

This morning I went to see the rare Western Swamphen in my Backyard again.
In the Netherlands, this is a very rare bird. The nearest breeding grounds are Spain and France.
It's been here for 44 days now.
What a beautiful bird with those purple-blue feathers and its red beak, head shield, and legs.
It really stands out among the black coots.

De Waterrietzanger is een zeldzame doortrekker die altijd wel in Nederland komt fourageren op zijn weg naar het overwinteringsgebied.

Er zijn best wel veel Waterrallen in mijn #achtertuin het #Rottemerengebied
Als ik mijn rondje fietst hoor je regelmatig overal van die gillende speenvarkens in het riet gillen. Ook de baltsroep in het voorjaar is een apart geluid..
Zien doe je ze bijna niet, alleen eind zomer als het water in de #plasdrasgebieden gezakt is. Dan zie je ze scharrelen op de slikranden langs het riet. #waterral #waterrail #birds #vogels #BirdsinmyBackyard #Zevenhuizerplas #Zevenhuizen
