Great Article by Chris Yoong: "Stop inviting overlay employees and bad actors into Accessibility spaces"

"Hearing genuine stories allows them to borrow, reshape or reframe those disabled or accessibility experiences as their own. They use photos and stories of real disabled people to build credibility, diluting or overwriting the voices of those they claim to represent."

Stop inviting overlay employees and bad actors into Accessibility spaces

It hands them blueprints for exploitation, legitimacy and control

I speak English (well), French (well enough to be understood), and one sentence each in Spanish and Italian.

The next language I’d really like to be able to communicate in at a basic level is #Auslan. Australian Sign Language. Then I’d like to add ASL and BSL. Every school should make the sign language of their region part of the core curriculum.

Let’s all at least learn the alphabet! Time to end the isolation the #deaf community experiences every day.

But it gets better: try keyboard-navigating through the form, and it's hard not to unsubscribe from everything, even if you didn't want to! As soon as the "unsubscribe all" checkbox gets focus, you get instantly unsubscribed: no interaction necessary.

A special level of #accessibiliy failure on Egencia's #mailingList subscription management page: the labels for choosing which individual mailing lists to subscribe to are properly-configured, but the "unsubscribe all" one isn't. Click the words "unsubscribe all" and... nothing happens.

Anyone around who's into TTRPGs who uses accessibility tools like a screen reader? What's the best way to make RPG material available to low vision users? How do you approach character sheets, and how can they be designed to be more accessible?

EDIT: Well this blew up-

Thank you all! I have a starting point now, but I'd very much appreciate any and all feedback on what I have now if anyone's interested!

Für die
#MessengerMatrix des @kuketzblog habe ich vor einer Weile die Berücksichtigung von Fragen zur #Barrierefreiheit angeregt:

Leider bisher gar keine Reaktion...

Addition of information on accessibility

Inclusion is important for a democratic digital society. That's why it seems important to me that informations on accessibility should be added to the Messenger Matrix. One example among others is the use with screenreaders for blind users. Perhaps one could call for the contribution o...

Has anybody ever measured how much damage sliders/carousels do to the web? Not only #accessibiliy, but people just love scrolling and do really not like clicking small arrows or dots in order to get information that was not important enough to show it in the first place.

I definitely will habe to look into potential #accessibiliy pitfalls in the api.
Like for motion sickness, elements appearing and disappearing (while not moving around other elements) are safe because it's not movement.
Let's see if I can find an answer to "are transitions better/worse" than no transitions?

PS: Jakob.Fun is on Blusky but I guess we still cannot follow Blusky users without a bridge, right?

The Tap to view button on Sensitive images has an extremely low contrast under certain conditions. Consider making the whole image space clickable to reveal.
