Today, PCB recognizes National Cancer Survivors Day

We honor cancer survivors, support those currently facing cancer, remember those we have lost & thank the families, caregivers, medical teams & communities who provide care & encouragement.

For people who are blind or low vision, accessible healthcare & supportive services matter.

Today is about strength, hope, resilience & community

Happy World Environment Day from PCB!

Today we celebrate the beauty of the world around us & the importance of building healthier, more inclusive communities.

Accessible parks, safe walking paths & inclusive outdoor programs help people who are blind or have low vision enjoy nature & participate in environmental efforts.

A healthier planet should be accessible to everyone.

🍩 Happy National Donut Day from the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind!

Today is a fun reminder to enjoy the little things, like a favorite donut, a warm drink, and time with community.

Accessibility matters in everyday places too. Clear menus, helpful staff, accessible payment options, and image descriptions can help everyone take part.

What is your favorite kind of donut?

It's long been my practice to italicize genus and species names in my posts, as would be standard in a paper. But the only way to do this here is via unicode, and it's been pointed out to me that this practice is not screen-reader friendly. Apparently some screen readers will skip them, which is probably fine and wouldn't impact things too much, but others will read each character in some annoying way like "mathematical symbol italicized B, mathematical symbol italicized E," et cetera, which sounds massively annoying.

So from here on out, genus and species names will be in standard text. I was wrong, so I'm changing.

Hi there. This page is a place for me, a senior geek who's also a late bloomer Bi guy, to share his thoughts and articles about issues that are important to him.
