Great advice not only for devs but for early career scientists.

"That means that you can take risks. You can ignore the prior art. You can push further and discover what your tastes are and how you might make better software, and differently shaped software. Use those new powers to build the future, not to another piece of the past."

Too many find a niche early on where they can publish lots of papers and get grants and then never leave or stray too far.

Making the present: Designing with communities of the land

Making the present: Designing with communities of the land

What if the path to sustainability is already being shaped by communities who work closely with the land? Sergio Bravo Josephson explores how local groups sustain the social and ecological systems that make everyday life possible.

Hey #AcademicFedi I need your opinion on something 🙏

I was recently asked to review on a platform I did not know: https://www.qeios.com

Anyone knows about it? It did not seem too fishy at a glance but their economic model and who is behind it is not entirely clear to me so I'm a bit wary of potential link with people with an agenda (almost got bitten before).
So I'm not sure I want to encourage people to use that can of platform instead of, say, @PeerCommunityIn until I know more about them and the guarantees that all the content will not be lost five years from now...

All opinions, feedbacks, or boosts are welcome 🙂

The Open Science platform reshaping scholarly communication.

Phew, managed to read through the proofs of an article today. Was a bit tight, only had 15 mins of working time left. It always tends to take longer than expected.

Talking in the research group about how to go about revising a paper. How many and which of the requested changes should you do? How do you prioritise?
How much can you change before it is not the same paper anymore?

So, is this paper still Theseus et al.?

From a recent post looking for PhD theses databases across Europe, I got lots of boosts (thanks) but only returns from very few European countries. So I wonder : how many active scientists (lets say having published one peer-reviewed paper in the last five years) are on mastodon from the different EU countries ?
Pools only have 10 choices, so more countries are in the next post 🙂

I find appalling that West universities are so silent about this, and many still cooperating with Israeli universities, while schools of arts and humanities like the one I'm doing my PhD fill their mouth of "class struggle, decoloniality and [insert your favourite academic leftwing jargon].

Quick question for the #AcademicFedi: I was recently reminded that I have a #ResearchGate account that I haven't updated in such a long time that I was still supposed to be doing a postdoc in Germany...
So I try to log in, discover that it's using my old German address, switch to the backup address, log in, update the affiliation, and then think "wait, but why am I keeping this"?

So I ask you: is there any good reason why I should not delete this account?

Opinion or boosts welcome 😉
