Those of you with terminal and plain text first workflows, how did you handle academia? I'm imagining a mix of git, pandoc, and vimwiki or org-mode.

Is there a good article on how to setup such a workflow? Any pitfalls?

Students have always used automatic translation to send me emails. Usually it was Google Translate or whatever Japanese tools they used. They were both terrible at translating Japanese language used by students into proper English, but at least Google-translate-English is easy to translate into real English, and Japanese-bad-translator-English has this awkward style that fits my students way of expressing themselves in English. ⤵️

I’ll go to my grave insisting that single-author scholarship in the #humanities in #acadamia is a terrible thing: it limits possibilities for feedback, tamps down interdisciplinary collaboration, and promotes unrealistic standards for scholars who are unable to pull in the grant funding or lack the language training to make it possible.

But that last piece is the whole point, and why it persists: a few people get to be superstars because they do have those resources.
