Not madly keen about having to hand over my email and phone number, just to know where it starts, tbh. I’ll skip the data capture.

Also: can’t we add “No Kings”, while we are at it?

“In Scotland and across the UK the most memorialised woman is Queen Victoria. Everywhere you go there are statues to Queen Victoria but we are not doing right by our young women and our commitment in our culture where people are recognised for who they are and what they achieve.

“I think if we’re going to spend this kind of money, why not take that £46m and put up fixed statues to women who achieved during her reign? It becomes a memorial to her reign and that has real meaning."

@RolloTreadway It's not the "Elizabeth Line", it's "Crossrail"
She didn't pay for it, then why name it after her? Bugs me...

Monarchs are useless, the excuse that they are indispensable because they attract substantial tourism money is bullshit.

Monarchs are just final boss landlords.

Showing Trump how to do it

While Trump needs a war to distract, Charley has persuaded the English to ‘name’ a coastal path after him and bask in the glory - despite the fact that it has bugger all to do with the tax avoiding, law distorting parasite. But I suppose as a distraction form his families behaviour and tax affairs it beats a war.

I’m not surprised he didn't try it on in Scotland, a bit too obvious.

The #UK is ejecting hereditary #nobles from #Parliament after 700 years

By Jill Lawless, March 11, 2026

Excerpt: "Centuries of British political tradition will end within weeks after Parliament voted to remove hereditary #aristocrats from the unelected House of Lords.

"On Tuesday night members of the upper chamber dropped objections to legislation passed by the House of Commons ousting dozens of #dukes, #earls and #viscounts who inherited seats in Parliament along with their aristocratic titles.

"Government minister Nick Thomas-Symonds said the change put an end to 'an archaic and undemocratic principle.'

" 'Our parliament should always be a place where talents are recognized and merit counts,' he said. 'It should never be a gallery of old boys’ networks, nor a place where titles, many of which were handed out centuries ago, hold power over the will of the people.' "

The UK is ejecting hereditary nobles from Parliament after 700 years

Britain is ending the centuries-old tradition of hereditary aristocrats sitting in Parliament’s House of Lords. Late Tuesday the Lords dropped objections to a bill passed by the House of Commons that removes dozens of dukes, earls, and others who inherited seats in the unelected upper chamber. The chamber currently has more than 800 members. The vast majority are now “life peers” appointed by the government, but roughly 1 in 10 members are currently hereditary peers. A previous Labour government removed most hereditary peers in 1999 but left 92 in place. The rest will leave at the end of the current session of Parliament in the spring.
