Landlords: Are we workers or investors?
- Landlords, or, Landbastards are rentiers, they are not investors who have put money into a company to extract part of it's productive capacity, they did not build the houses they rent out.
Landbastards: But we pay taxes on our income.
- We all pay taxes, except my revenue stream comes from my work and yours comes from 30% of mine.

A public construction program would be self-sustaining once the houses started selling, it wouldn't create the possibility of deteriorating public housing and maintenance costs, and it could increase or decrease construction projects based on the number of unhoused people or people spending more than a certain percentage of their income on rent.

An idea rolling around in my head: like building and maintaining roads, local governments could hire construction crews to build housing for sale on the private market, even at full "market rates", in order to increase housing supply and thus decrease housing prices.

We rent because, at some point in the past, our ancestors were dispossessed by force and coercion from land that sustained them. Rent is one of the primary levers that keeps us trapped - the system that siphons away what little value we are paid from the labor we're forced to provide.

And because it is a crucial site of our exploitation, like labor, it is a revolutionary lever: If we can stop paying rent (which essentially means, defeat the bourgeois state's violent attempts at eviction, and create a housing system run by the people) this is a major step toward a society and economy run by all of us.

It's not hard to start a tenant's union. Join an existing one, or start meeting with other tenants in your community, learning your rights, and building your strike savings and your membership. Hold trainings and social events. Fight for better laws, to build leverage and energy.
