ICE agents deployed to more than a dozen US airports amid staffing gaps

By David Shepardson
March 23, 2026

WASHINGTON, March 23 (Reuters) - "U.S. immigration agents began deploying at more than a dozen U.S. airports on Monday to aid security screening as staffing ‌absences by unpaid airport security officers have caused massive delays.

"The Homeland Security Department confirmed it had begun deploying hundreds of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to assist in security at airports facing significant staffing issues."

[...]

"For now, ICE personnel will not be deployed in areas behind airport security checkpoints because they lack the specific clearance needed, ‌sources told Reuters."

Fascist paramilitary invaders in plain clothes at SFO airport refuse to show a badge while abducting woman with her daughter after they passed security checkpoint (San Francisco, CA - 3/22/26)

Info from one of the witnesses:
Was leaving SFO around 10:30PM last night 3/22 when I heard yelling and saw a huge crowd of people. There were at least a dozen San Francisco police officers and a ridiculous amount of people gathered in a circle, some recording or talking on the phone. When I got closer, I saw a woman kneeling on the ground next to a couch/bench with a little girl and the police officers were basically surrounding her, facing away so seemingly keeping the crowd away/hiding her from the crowd. I asked a woman what happened, and she said she was there from the very beginning and saw it all. There were apparently two men in black + wearing backpacks who ran up and grabbed her passport, shoved her (?) and were keeping her there. She seemed to not know for sure, but she suspected that they were ICE agents and the police officers were there to protect them. I could see at least one of these men talking with police officers. Just a few minutes later, I heard yelling again and when I looked back, people were running up and filming while police officers were trying to keep them away. I saw the same woman as before now in a wheelchair in a very uncomfortable position (seemingly being shoved into it) and the small girl walking alongside her and crying. The two men in black were pushing the wheelchair/walking with her and there were a small group of officers/airport workers(?) going with her as well.

I've contacted my senators and representative again in support of not funding DHS. Anyone who hasn't called/written in a bit, maybe consider doing so. The Trump regime sending ICE to airports is a huge win because it gets ICE off the streets and into a high surveillance environment. Don't interrupt your enemies while they are making a mistake.

Students were arrested at the Krome concentration camp while peacefully protesting. (Miami, FL - 03/14/26)

On Saturday, 30 youth activists and a journalist were arrested blockading the entrance to the Krome ICE Detention Facility near Miami, Florida. The activists have been held overnight with bail set at $1,200 per person. The activists were standing in solidarity with immigrant neighbors being disappeared from their homes, schools, and businesses by the Fascist Trump Administration. Please help us get our friends out of jail, cover their legal fees and associated costs, so they can continue fighting creeping authoritarianism in our country.

Their Go Fund Me for bail and legal fees:

Funds will be used to reimburse organizers for bail which they paid out of pocket, to cover the costs of return travel for the protesters, and to cover any further legal costs that may arise from their arrest. Any funds left over will be used for mutual aid (rent, groceries, bills, and unexpected emergency expenditures for poor and working class organizers) to support pro-democracy organizing in the United States.

Boy, you know things are topsy-turvy when #RandPaul is the voice of reason! smh

"Paul calls Mullin a liar with anger management problems who lacks the temperament to lead the troubled Homeland Security Department that is at the forefront of Trump’s mass deportation agenda.

" 'Tell it to the world why you believe I deserved to be assaulted,' Paul said on Wednesday as he gaveled the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to order.

" 'Explain to the American people why they should trust a man with anger issues to set the proper example for ICE and border patrol agents.' "

Rand Paul confronts Sen. Mullin, Trump's DHS pick, in bitter exchange

Senator Rand Paul has made it clear he has little regard for President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, fellow Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin. So the Republican chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee opened Wednesday's confirmation hearing with a dare: Say it to my face. Mullin has called Paul a “freaking snake,” and Paul calls Mullin a liar with anger management problems. Mullin showed no signs of backing down. In a season of tumultuous congressional hearings, it stood out for rare Republican pushback to Trump's choice. And it shows Mullin's narrow path toward confirmation.

Senator Rand Paul's hearing of Secretary of Homeland Security nominee Markwayne Mullin brilliantly exposes Mullin's violent temperament and why he should not head the Departmant of Homeland Security (an illegitimate agency in its own right).

Trump administration speeds up new rules that would make it easier to charge some protesters

By REBECCA SANTANA
Updated 4:19 PM EDT, November 6, 2025

Excerpts: "The new rules empower officers from the #FederalProtective #Service [#FPS] to make arrests and charge people for actions near the federal property, and they include new rules regulating unauthorized use of #drones and tampering with digital networks.

"The Homeland Security news release gave some examples of conduct that the Federal Protective Service could now charge someone for, both on federal property and off, including wearing a #mask while committing a crime, #obstructing access to federal property and tampering with government IT systems like card readers.

"Spencer Reynolds, a former intelligence and counterintelligence lawyer at the Department of Homeland Security who’s now with the #BrennanCenter for Justice, a think tank, said Congress gave the Federal Protective Service the ability to work and carry out arrests off of federal property as necessary. But he’s concerned that the new regulations codifying these powers will be used as a way to target #protesters.

" 'I see this as being guidance to go after peaceful protests where they are happening in the vicinity or even not in the vicinity of federal property,' he said.

"In a report last year issued by the Brennan Center, Reynolds said the FPS expanded dramatically after Sept. 11 and that’s led to 'overreach under political pressure.' "
[...]

"The Federal Protective Service is tasked with protecting federal properties. The agency used to fall under the U.S. General Services Administration, which is responsible for purchasing and managing federal real estate, but when the Department of Homeland Security was created in the aftermath of Sept. 11, the FPS was transferred to Homeland Security."

Trump administration drafts new rules that would target protesters

The Trump administration is speeding up new rules for the Federal Protective Service, giving it more authority to charge people for offenses on or off federal properties. These changes, initially set for next year, took effect on Wednesday. The administration cites a “recent surge in violence” as the reason for the early implementation. Protests against President Trump's deportation policies have increased, especially near immigration enforcement buildings. Critics argue the new rules could target protesters. The Federal Protective Service can now make arrests for actions near federal properties and regulate unauthorized drone use and digital tampering.
