Surprise! There's an update!

I listened to "The Visitors" basically non stop in the last weeks and came to the following conclusion: it's their best. It's perfection.

From a commercial standpoint, it was clear that an ABBA comeback album will always be successful.

But does it measure up to ABBA's legacy?

In my opinion it does. There were so many things they could have done wrong, but they didn't. They transported their sound into the 2020s and it worked.

And thus, my ABBA voyage comes to an end. There is only one thing missing, my final #ABBA studio album ranking:

Voyage sounds grand, it is a "big" album, but I guess this was somehow to be expected.

It still has the ABBA sound though, especiall on tracks like "Don't Shut Me Down" and this one 👇

The Visitors - #ABBA's last album for 40 years - is different.

The group recorded it after they were all divorced and I bet that this didn't make things easy. Now you might think this overshadowed things, but just like Fleetwood Mac with Rumors, they pulled of a true masterpiece.

The Visitors is the ABBA album for people who don't like ABBA.

The harmonies are godlike.
I'd even go so far and say: these are the best harmonies ever done.
Period.

Better than the Beach Boys.

What do you listen to on your way home from a thrash and death metal show?

ABBA!

Voulez-Vous is ABBA's most disco album and it is full with iconic melodies. My highlights were the title track and of course Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, but I also found "new" songs: "Does Your Mother Know", "Lovelight" and "The King Has Lost His Crown" are exceptional pop songs.

You may not like ABBA, but you have to acknowledge their influence across all musical genres.
