The seabirds are enjoying an astonishing feast of mussels these days. Astonishing to me, at least. I've never seen so many mussel shells dropped all along the city coastline. Photos don’t convey the extent. There are so many that I’m astonished people aren’t being hit on the head by them. I don’t know whether to think ’aww, that's nice, the birds are having a blast, smashing their shellfish open like good Viking gulls' or ’uh-oh is this a Hitchcockian sign of climate collapse?’
