#Movies #ActionHeroes . . .

We male #AAPI #ChineseAmericans have few positive male movie icons or heroes.

For us #Boomer Chinese-Americana, this was #BruceLee, who died far too young. Not only did he have a white wife, he was a "bad dude" & dispelled the negative sexual stereotypes of Asian men that still exist.

While I don't think he's the greatest Asian hero of all time, as the following article suggests, #ChowYunFat was a successor to Bruce & his partnership with John Woo is akin to that between Mifune & Kurosawa but while significant within the genre of Asian action films, far less groundbreaking than the Japanese collaboration was.

In any event, if you never seen #HardBoiled, #ABetterTomorrow & #Killer, you should make the effort to do so, because they are ground breaking movies in the modern #HongKongMovie genre & are essential to a full understanding of Asian action films.

Forget Cruise and Schwarzenegger: Why Chow Yun-Fat is cinema's greatest action hero

The Hong Kong actor made a series of films with director John Woo that revolutionised the action genre – and key to them was his beguiling mixture of toughness and tenderness.

"The video prominently features the iconic Founders Library, the first site at an HBCU to be named a national treasure, which had yet to be constructed. In addition, most of the people depicted in the audience on The Yard are not Black, which belies the institution’s history as one of the country’s foremost colleges with a predominantly Black student body."

#TVShows #AAPI . . .

#Apple is offering a teaser on #PrimeVideo which allowed me to binge watch the entire 1st season (10 episodes) of their #Godzilla spin off #MonarchLegendofMonsters which stars #AnnaSawai (who later starred in the the TV show #Shogun as #LadyMariko.

The show features a lot of Asian actors with 2 Asian women at its core but there are still 3 white male "supporting" actors who steal the focus away from the women but there are so few shows that have more than a single token Asian actor in it that I'm willing to overlook this.

The show starts off with a "Where's Daddy?" theme & then transitions to a deeper "monsters vs people" parallel universe sci fi theme.

I liked the show but it wasn't enough to get me to subscribe to #AppleTV in order to continue to watch the 2nd season which just started & adds #Kong to battle with Godzilla.

In any event, if you're not already an Apple subscriber & like monster movies, this show is currently available to view for no extra charge on Prime.

"One of the things I learned making this film is just how heavy the crown that they wear is, like to be able to make amazing music, but also have to represent an entire country to the world. That's so unique to a band like BTS, and I wanted to make sure that we really underlined that in the film."
