Most of the work for the #RC2014 machine based on the #Zilog higher integrated #Z180 CPU is done. The two 90° card connectors are final work for tomorrow afternoon. All parts were available from my private stock, except the 74AHCT139 for the RAM card. The circuits are, as ever, highly quality from pcb4diy.

This morning, I'd like to treat your eyes to a particularly rare specimen of the computer history. A #Yodobashi #Formula1, distributed in Germany by the company Schoppe&Faeser located in Minden. It was used as a "mobile" programming station for the company's early control systems. And btw, it's fully functional right now.

Ă“scar Toledo G.The Hitachi HD64180 was an improvement over the Z80, with an 8x8 multiplication instruction, and able to address 512kb of memory. Zilog licensed it back as the Z180 and added a further address line to handle 1 mb of memory. #zilog
The Zilog Z280 microprocessor. Able to address 16 megabytes of memory, and with MMU for 64k code area and 64k data area. It wasn't so popular, so it ceased manufacturing, but for some reason, Zilog sent all datasheets and manuals to oblivion. Check bitsavers. #zilog

Es gibt nur wenige Programme für 80-Zeichen-Karten, und die CP/M-Cartridge macht ohne 80 Zeichen keinen wirklichen Sinn. Was liegt also näher, als beide Karten zu kombinieren. Und dann das Ganze so klein wie möglich zu machen, damit es in ein Standard Cartridgegehäuse passt. Also alles kleiner machen, zusammenpacken und die "Double-80s" war geboren.
