The changes also include the withdrawal of the #Barcelona <> #Salamanca 632-633 train portion. Therefore, Alvia 621-622 will no longer be split in Miranda and run with a single Series 130 set for the entire journey.

However, a new IC 632-633 #Zaragoza 🇪🇸 <> Salamanca will be introduced with two completely new train paths departing 5h earlier from Salamanca/later from Zaragoza.

It will be operated with a Series 121 train set instead (no Elige Confort seats). (2/2)

Basilica El Pilar, Zaragoza's most iconic building. It looks like a mosque but it's one of the city's two cathedrals. It is named for a pillar where St Mary is said to have appeared to St James, which you can kiss. This incarnation of St Mary is the patron saint of the Spanish-speaking world, so there are flags inside of every Spanish-speaking country.

In the last shot are two unexploded bombs that fell through the roof during the Spanish Civil War.

Zaragoza has two cathedrals. La Seo ("The See"), at the end of this square, was the more senior church, but El Pilar ("The Pillar"), to the left, was a popular pilgrimage site. It is named for a pillar where St Mary is said to have appeared to St James. The churches jostled to be the city's cathedral, until rhe Pope solved by the dispute by making them both cathedrals.
.
El Pilar is Zaragoza's most iconic building, but La Seo is the more interesting one to visit.

The apartment we hired in Zaragoza is a good place to stay for the Passion Week parades. Unless you want peace and quiet...
.
These parades of brotherhoods date back to the Flagellantes, who did public shows of penance in response to the Black Death. Partly because the church didn't like them, they often hide their faces.
.
The cone hat was used by the Spanish Inquisition to mark a public humiliation, so in time the brotherhoods used it as a symbol of humility and penance. This is the origin of the rather sinister hoods they wear, called 'capirotes'.
