#Yurii showed the conditions in which he and his wife are surviving through the winter on the first floor of a residential building in #Kyiv.
No electricity, hot water, or heating. The average temperature in the apartment is about 3°C. #Yurii sleeps in warm clothes and walks around in felt boots. Despite temperatures dropping to -20°C and below, the couple say they have no choice but to stay home and adapt to the conditions.

After so many years in captivity, getting used to ordinary life turns out to be quite difficult.

#Yurii_Shapovalov, a doctor, spent 7 years, 7 months, and 3 days imprisoned in #Russian-occupied #Donetsk for his pro-#Ukrainian position.
#Yurii is a native of #Donetsk and a physician with 30 years of experience. He worked as a neurophysiologist at the diagnostic center of the regional hospital.
After the start of the #Russian occupation in 2014, #Yurii stayed in the city and, under the pseudonym "#Zalyshenets_Donetskyi"
"'Isolation' is a terrible place. That’s where the torture took place. The conditions of detention were extremely harsh. All those 100 days, I was kept in a basement. #Yurii worked as a neurologist for 25 years. Due to personal circumstances, he did not leave #Donetsk after the city was seized by #Russian forces.
Security forces detained #Yurii in January 2018 on charges of "spying for #Ukraine."
