I finished watching You & Idol PreCure today.
If I try to sum up how I feel about it, it was a season that was doing exactly what is expected of PreCure, without giving it any substance.
The villains, their goals and their motivation were under-explained.
The 3 main characters felt generic and I did not see any development, both as in personal growth and their strength as a magical girl.
Purirun and Meroron were quite one-dimensional. Meroron being possessive and mean was not called out and then she changed very suddenly.
I completely disliked how the idol aspect was handled: it felt more like they are kids playing idols, never featuring the hard parts like writing songs or practicing choreographies.
I’m glad it’s over now.

One episode left after this 😮‍💨 I can state that the finale is not saving the season for me, at all.
Good things first: There were some very cool fight scenes in this episode. I’m also glad that Darkine didn’t turn out so weak that Uta can face her alone and not struggle, and that they didn’t wrap up the fight in this episode (I could have seen the last episode being just the final concert with all songs playing in full length, or something like that).
Last episode made me think that beating Chokkirine was too easy. I was surprised that she couldn’t be permanently reformed to join the trio again, but why save that for another episode? It would have had more impact if we were left to mourn her at the end of the previous episode.

It’s mighty late that the Cures start wondering about Darkine’s goals now.
Same for Cuttin and Zakkurin bringing up that they’d like Chokkirine to join them unconditionally, just because she did something nice once.
Both of that could have happened half a year ago…
The fight wasn’t particularly impressive either. For a pre-final boss it was way too easy to convert Chokkirine, there was also no foundation for it built in earlier episodes.

I really can’t wait for the new show to start -and replace this one.

After finishing this Episode, I thought that whatever happens in the remaining episodes will not save the series.
So far there was absolutely no buildup for viewers to make theories about Darkiine, and the title of the next episode sounds like they will now drop the full story.
Someone on a forum mentioned that the last 4 episodes were wrapping up character arcs and my only thought was - what arcs? The characters didn’t have arcs. They had one or two personality traits each and just kept it for the whole series.
