Since I can remember, Israel's Independence Day has always been a bittersweet occasion. We celebrate with joy and pride, yet our hearts ache with the memories of the sacrifices made.

This year, more than any other, has been the hardest I have ever known.

The resilience of the Israeli spirit is forged in the crucible of adversity. Each year, as we wave our flags and sing our songs, we also remember those who are not with us, the price we have paid, and the tears we have shed.

Today, we celebrate our independence. We honor the legacy of those who fought for our right to exist and those who continue to defend it.

We recognize that our freedom comes at the heaviest cost, but it also comes with a profound sense of unity and determination.

This year, our hearts may be too heavy to rejoice, but our spirit is unbreakable.

Happy Independence Day, Israel. Here's to many more years of resilience, growth, and unyielding hope.

Mit 9 Jahren entkam David Eskeles nur knapp dem Naziterror. Um in #Palästina einen Zufluchtsort für alle Jüd*innen zu schaffen, schloss er sich der linken Elitemiliz #Palmach an.

Er wurde Offizier der #IDF und gründete später das #Kibbutz Palmachim.
