Sabri Essid, a French member of the Islamic State (IS), has been convicted of genocide and crimes against humanity by a Paris court for his role in atrocities against the Yazidi people. The trial, which took place in his absence, relied on harrowing testimony from Yazidi women who were enslaved by Essid between 2014 and 2016 in the IS caliphate.

This approach has led to cases where people are sent back to the very camps they once fled, undoing years of integration in Germany & reinforcing the cycle of displacement & despair."
