Finally back at the #YashicaMatLM.

I cleaned the lenses, and they seem to be in pretty good shape. Only the rear element of the taking lens looks a little bit like there might be some lens separation starting to happen.

It seems to be a thing with #Yashica lenses and me. 😄 (https://mastodon.online/@PistonPin/115078127364587066)

After servicing the film winding mechanism on the #YashicaMatLM today, the whole camera now operates smoothly again. Now all that's left to do is to properly clean the lenses and make it look good again. 🙂

All speeds are working reliably again now. (But I will do a check for accuracy.) 🔊

Ultrasonic bath and lubrication are done. And, well, that doesn't look too bad, imho.

Today, I continued with the #YashicaMatLM. The slower speeds were very sticky.

So I took the lens plate and another cover off, and disassembled the shutter as far as necessary to be able to remove the speed governor.

I then put it in isopropanol, which already helped. A bath in the (new) ultrasonic cleaner and fresh lubricant, and I'm quite confident that it will be as good as new.

The self-timer thankfully (and to my surprise) worked quite alright.

The leatherette of the #YashicaMatLM isn't very pretty anymore. Since it needs to be removed anyway to access the screws underneath, I decided to attach a new one.

My plan now is to create a set of SVGs for CNC cutting. While I know where I could get them laser cut, I thought it would be much more fun to add a drag knife to my 3D-printer and DIY the whole thing. This would also allow me to create all sorts of other things in the future. 1/2

The new lugs are quite a bit more complex but also quite a bit more trustworthy. 😄

Happy coincidence: with the way these little spring arms are oriented, attaching the lugs to the camera requires very little force, whereas removing them definitely requires an intentional amount of force. It seems very unlikely, that they would come off by accident.

More parts for the #YashicaMatLM on this #FreeCADFriday. 🙂

This is version one of a quick-release strap lug. It works quite well! But I also have another version in mind: a more heavy-duty one.

I designed a die and punch in #FreeCAD and 3D-printed them using the material with the highest temperature resistance available on the filament shelf.

I then cut the clear window part of an old CD case into smaller pieces. I heated them one by one in the oven @ ~130°C and pressed them into the die using the punch.

After a little bit of trimming (using a 3D-printed saw guide) and sanding, another point is checked off the to-do list. 😄
