Soon Nochka stopped looking for her kitten.
She refused to sleep in the basement and didn’t want to come inside to me anymore.
But whenever we met outside, she would still follow me around.

Later I found out that people were letting her spend the nights in the building entrance.
While the weather was warm, that was good enough for her.

The Tough Cat Musya

Musya had been living in our yard for a long time.
People said she’d been thrown out of a nearby house.
She trusted no one and knew better than to expect anything good from humans.

That attitude actually helped her kittens survive.
Out of the few who made it, two were hers — Dusya and Belka.
