I seldom post anything on X other than links to my own articles (via Buffer). But my heart was so warmed by seeing a member of Congress tackle the issue of excessively bright headlights that I appended my agreement (with a link to one of three 2021 articles I wrote on the matter). I concur that dimming the headlights should be a bipartisan issue.

I just learned that Elmo, the popular red Sesame Street muppet, went “full Nazi” on X on Sunday, July 13, 2025 [Paul Rois for Breitbart, July 13, 2025]. To be clear, by full Nazi we mean in pro-Holocaust sense instead of the everyone I don’t like is Hitler sense. People are saying “Elmo” was hacked. This may be true. But I am not jumping to conclusions. See, I was not born yesterday. I am old enough to remember the video game magazine writers were all tingly about Conker, a little video game squirrel who was a selectable racer in Diddy Kong Racing and star of the children’s Game Boy Color adventure Conker’s Pocket Talesreemerged on Nintendo 64 as degenerate potty-mouthed alcoholic in Conker’s Bad Fur DayWhile I suspect that “the people” are almost certainly correct in guessing that Elmo’s X account was hacked, there is a tiny possibility that this is part of a dark, Conker-style re-branding (but with less alcohol and potty “humor” and more “just asking questions” and Nazis). Time will tell.

(Aside: My only video game experience with Conker came in Diddy Kong Racing. I never had any interest in playing Conker’s Bad Fur Day, but I remember that it was a hot topic in the video game magazines for several months.)

[Note] Elmo’s Bad Fur Day

Sesame Street’s Elmo had a Nazi outburst on X. While Elmo was almost certainly hacked, the heel turn reminded me of Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

The Emu Café Social

I opened X a few days ago to check my profile. Instead of taking me to my profile (I have a special social browser profile where I stay logged in), X told me that I was suspicious and made me complete two very annoying CAPTCHAs to prove I was a person. After getting back into my account, I was told to review X’s rules (no clue as to what “rule” was violated). Then I had to log out and in again to interact with the UI. Everything was back to normal the next day. I only use X to post links to my articles (which is similar to how I use Mastodon, Bluesky, Minds, and NOSTR), so “losing” the account would not have been a serious problem like being blacklisted by Bing for the better part of a year was. But consider my story a cautionary tale for anyone who relies on third-party social media platforms (open source, proprietary, or other) as their primary or, worse yet, sole online presence. Focus on building your online home and then use third-party social media to invite others to visit.

The story of our Bing blacklisting

The New Leaf Journal was blacklisted by Microsoft’s Bing Search in January 2023. I use another webmaster’s account as a springboard to tell our story.
