Connecticut Governor Lamont and DEEP Commissioner Dykes issued a press release on Trump's EPA.

Will they be accountable to their own words in an upcoming decision?

They have the power.

Dear Governor Lamont and Commissioner Dykes,

I am writing to urge you to reject the air permit application for the Iroquois Gas Transmission System’s Brookfield Compressor Station (Facility ID #3784). Your recent statements about the EPA's rollback of environmental and clean air regulations make it clear that Connecticut is particularly vulnerable to pollution from sources beyond our borders. Approving this permit would contradict those very concerns, exposing Connecticut residents to additional harmful emissions at a time when we need stronger—not weaker—protections for our air and public health.

Governor Lamont, you stated that “these rollbacks are especially damaging for downwind states like Connecticut” and that “only the federal government can address the significant amount of air pollution that originates from outside our borders.” While the federal government’s failure to act is deeply concerning, Connecticut still has the ability to control what happens within our own borders. Rejecting this permit is a critical step to ensuring that we don’t contribute to the very pollution we are working so hard to reduce.

Commissioner Dykes, you emphasized that Connecticut has exceeded the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for nearly 50 years, putting the health of our most vulnerable residents at risk. The Brookfield Compressor Station expansion would dramatically increase methane, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compound emissions, worsening our already dangerous air quality. You have warned that the EPA’s actions “attack the tools we have available to protect our residents.” One of those tools is Connecticut’s authority over air permitting. I urge you to use it now.

If Connecticut is truly committed to protecting the health and well-being of its residents, then approving a permit that increases air pollution is simply not an option. Please stand by your words and reject the Iroquois Gas air permit application for the Brookfield Compressor Station.

Respectfully,

Jonathan J Webster

Governor Lamont and Commissioner Dykes Statements on EPA Announcement Rolling Back Environmental and Clean Air Regulations

Dear Ms. Johnson,

I am reaching out to raise significant concerns about the Iroquois Gas Transmission Enhancement by Compression (ExC) project, particularly its role in locking in long-term reliance on methane gas infrastructure.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with far-reaching implications for our climate and public health. Expanding infrastructure to facilitate its continued use creates an enduring dependency that is fundamentally at odds with the urgent need to transition to renewable energy sources. This is not merely a question of emissions today; it is about the decades-long legacy of methane reliance that projects like this perpetuate.

With policies increasingly favoring decarbonization, how does Iroquois reconcile this project with the clear scientific consensus that methane infrastructure poses an unacceptable risk to meeting climate targets? Beyond the immediate operational emissions, the project risks delaying investments in truly sustainable energy solutions, effectively entrenching an outdated energy model.

Communities and future generations deserve more than incremental change; they deserve transformative leadership that prioritizes a rapid shift away from fossil fuels altogether. I urge Iroquois to reconsider its trajectory and take bold steps toward aligning its operations with a net-zero future.

I look forward to hearing how Iroquois plans to address these critical concerns, not just for today, but for the long-term health of our planet and its people.

Sincerely,

Jonathan
