Yesterday I finally picked up my #icom705 . This will replace my #x6200 which I’ve used for #QRP #POTA etc. until now. Currently I‘m using a manual antenna tuner and I‘ve hit way better results than with the built-in automatic antenna tuner from the x6200. Not sure if it’s the radio or the tuner but I‘ll re-evaluate the x6200 with the manual tuner as well. So far I’ve much better reports with the 705.

I'm going boat camping on a MacGregor 26D. Want to try the #x6200 for #POTA . But I have bad luck getting anyone to come back to me @QRP levels. I can build an inverted delta loop (was thinking of trying that anyway) and hoist the bottom peak up the mast, or go with a inverted V dipole (or both). I can't bring the FT857D & tuner, so I'll be #QRP #hamRadio

So any ideas??

Boat dimensions are here: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/macgregor-26d
26ft LOA, mast 28ft above deck, dec k~4ft above fresh water lake surface.

Tomorrow heading out to the mountains to annoy some trout with my kids. I'll of course be packing my #x6200 and try to do some #amatuerRadio #hamradio #ParksOnTheAir from several possibilities. US-12159, US-4474 at a minimum but also possibly a 2fer or a 3fer with US-10419 and US-12232
I finally got some time with the #Xeigu #x6200 #hamradio #AmateurRadio pretty happy ... when on a good antenna. Performance when on the vertical I bought... Much less so. I did crimp on #andersonpowerpoles and hook it up to my battery so that I could run 8W. I suspect this unit will perform best on mountain tops on 40m CW, but I want SSB! I need more time with other people listening for me to know if the SSB is just the band being spotty, or if it is not good. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP82VJfdW/

I am taking the next step in #ParksOnTheAir / #SummitsOnTheAir with a portable radio. It was a toss up between the IC705 and the #x6200 but for 1/2 the cost I will experiment and see if portable ops is in my wheel house. If it is, I might eventually get the 705. The SSB performance is underwhelming but the live FT8 decode is interesting. I've been picked up in Pasadena CA from Boise ID in 5w Morse code on the also-new-to-me GRA-7350T.
I will soon join the ranks of #HamRadio #operators with #portable #hfradio setups. I have a #x6200 on the way for the (hopefully) full summer season of #POTA #ParksOnTheAir and May be a few #SOTA #SummitsOnTheAir
@w8emv Not yet, work went nuts for a couple weeks. But the #x6200 did get used for a few contacts at #arrlfd and has made #13colonies contacts this week from my QTH.

There is a mailing list for the #Xiegu #X6200 a new radio via #radioddity that builds on the previous generation #X6100

So far early reports have uncovered lots of small issues, many of which sound to my ear like they could be fixed in firmware, but collectively sounding pretty awkward.

It looks like @greppy has been having some #pota fun with it per https://technomage.net/2024/06/the-x6200-initial-thoughts/
