If there was some kind of semi-organised UK hackers-on-a-train type meet up, how interested would you be? Further polls could occur...

At the weekend I went to Hebden Bridge for the #WutheringBytes festival including #OSHCamp.

On Saturday I gave a talk about dye sublimation printing on to PCBs. Most of that talk was from this blog I wrote last year https://rc2014.co.uk/2293/dye-sublimation-printing-on-pcbs-for-rc2014-pride/

On Sunday I ran a workshop where people could design their own artwork to go on to a PCB. This could then be assembled in to an electronic dice. If anybody is interested the files for the workshop are here https://rc2014.co.uk/OSHCamp2024/

I've put my talk from #WutheringBytes "Poking holes in reality with prototypes" on my blog - featuring many projects I worked on in @BBCRD as well as Shonkbot from Bristol Hackspace https://planb.nicecupoftea.org/2024/08/26/poking-holes-in-reality-with-prototypes/

Here’s the text and images from my talk at Wuthering Bytes 2024. Credits / links are here. This isn’t exactly what I said, I was distracted by a talking robot at one point for one thing…

I can not believe what i'm seeing and reading about the "Friend" IOT AI thing. Found via @[email protected] #wutheringbytes today

...And that creepy video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_Q1hoEhfk4

These videos are made for investors not for real people!

Your new AI Friend is almost ready to meet you

Friend CEO Avi Schiffmann isn’t trying to help you be productive like Microsoft Recall. He wants to build a companion, a confidante, and an AI best friend.

Imagining a radio for superfans of The Archers, which plays that programme and nothing else. One of @libbymiller's wonderfully wonky #DesignFiction creations at #WutheringBytes
Reconsidering my relationship with shonky projects as a result of @libbymiller's #WutheringBytes talk
lovely #WutheringBytes talk by @libbymiller (self confessed maker of poor-quality robots), noting how flat and uninspiring phone and computer interfaces are, occasionally interrupted by a robot (made by someone else) who wants to be friends. No flat interface experiences here in Hebden Bridge

Something wild and disconcerting about seeing audio processing + speech synthesis + ChatGPT grafted to a homebrew, retirement hobby robot with a motorised neck that lives in a box. 🎤
