"[#HowardJacobson] has #written and spoken about how unmoored he has felt from his country, society and fellow citizens during the brutal conflict in #Israel and #Gaza, and has attracted opprobrium for doing so; in #Howl, he explores not simply a feeling of being out of joint with the times, but of experiencing the reawakened fear of #displacement and #violence that #antisemitism provokes. He knows, one suspects, that some #readers will find this utterly enraging, not to say morally repulsive, and he confronts them head on; in Ferdinand Draxler, he creates a man who wholeheartedly believes that #7October has allowed #Jew-hatred to flourish untrammelled, who argues – to anyone who will listen, and even more to those who will not – that it has provided the alibi for #antisemites to do what they wanted to do all along.

Unsurprisingly, Howl is an immensely uncomfortable #novel; it is also, like most of #Jacobson’s work, a comic one."

@whitehouse-47.bsky.social you really are kind of a fucking idiot you know that? #History gets written by people with #money #for #minute, but there's a lot of fucking history being #written in the way that the money can #never fucking #unwrite. I've #written 384 pages in my #journal so far this year.  My average is ~6.5 pages per day. I expect this will pick up as I go along. I have a lot of writing to do.

This is what I mean by I use my #fountainpens for #writing. I've emptied 6-8 of my pens over the last two weeks.

The reason for all of this writing in a journal? I am doing something of a brain dump. Putting as many things from the past as I can remember down in writing. Many of these memories will later be woven into #fictional #stories that I am working on.

This is the reason that I am writing them manually. I don't want these #memories to be online in any form. I don't want #AI companies using my memories to train their wretched systems.

The best part about this? #Security. These journals are locked in a fireproof safe. When I am done with them, I will shred them with a diamond cut shredder. I will then take the cut up pieces and either put them in a bucket of water and make a slurry out of them, or I will burn them.  They will not be recovered, ever.

"Never judge a #book by its cover, the saying goes. Well, with #EishetChayil: #WomanofValor, published by #Kehot #Publication Society, you actually can.

Pick up the beautiful #hardcover, encased in a lavender slipcase, and you know you are holding something exquisite. The book feels less like a volume and more like an object meant to be treasured. Its linen-bound cover invites you to open the pages with thoughtful intention.

What becomes clear almost immediately is that the book’s external beauty is proportional to the depth contained within.

#Written by renowned #author #Rabbi #YossiMarcus, Eishet Chayil focuses in its entirety on the hymn from #KingSolomon’s #Proverbs of the same name honoring the woman of valor, which is traditionally sung at the #Shabbat table on Friday nights, through the lens of 24 #Jewish #heroines."
