Writing/ reading question for y'all: the book I'm reading, uses "male" instead of "man". As in, "the male I'd seen earlier walked past me." In this instance the reference is to a god or god-adjacent being. Similarly, "female" instead of "woman".

I've seen this style a couple other times lately, feels like, and I don't like it. It feels othering and jarring. Has anyone else seen this, and what are your opinions on this style? Is this a new trend or something, and *why* is it being used?

Last year, I was talking about starting some sort of #WritingPrompt / #WritingQuestions hashtag for #Horror and #DarkFantasy #writers, like #WritingWonders or #WordWeavers / #WritersCoffeeClub, but this would be #WritingHorrors and ask questions about morbid topics within #stories.

The post was https://writing.exchange/@raccoon/110379438345748519

I got very sidetracked at some point, but I'd still like to do it, and with #October / #Halloween just around the corner, I'm going to try and start that up soon.

Still brainstorming names for those #WritingWonders-esque #WritingPrompt / #WritingQuestions series... I should come up with some hashtags that work for this. The first two topics I'm thinking of are for stories with #Horror/Dark elements, and #worldbuilding... They should be unique, descriptive, but short enough to not take up too much of a post. So far "WritingHorrors" and "WritingWorlds" feel like they could be names... Any suggestions, fediverse #writers? (Please boost, discuss in 🧵)

Footprints In The Snow - A Poem For Christmas

Poetry is the hardest form of writing for me. Yet, this short Christmas poem is one of the first things I published on my blog. What do you find the most difficult thing to write?

Hugh's Views & News

I like the lighting in this episode. Everything is golden (like a hand device) when Sha're is around and goes back to cooler light afterward. I wonder if there's a way to do that in fiction through tone/word choice/motif.

How would you do that? (Not intended as rhetorical.) #SESG1 #WritingQuestions

When you were teen/young adult did you have a friend or peer who you idolized as just “so cool” — I’m talking if they cut their hair you wonder if you should do the same?

What ever happened to that person? Do you know?
Did they ever know how much you admired them?

(I’m working on a character dynamic that I feel like I almost understand— A kind lopsided friendship— Is it necessary to sort out romantic love from platonic love? I’m too bisexual to know.) #writing #writingQuestions
