#WordWeavers Mar 23: What are you careful about when writing?

Stupid grammar mistakes that might slip away and make me look like dumb when someone will read my story.

#WritersCoffeeClub Mar. 23: What's the most you've worked on a WIP before deciding to scrap it? What happened?

It was a pre-Cataclysm #WorldOfCalliome novel that I was some 50,000+ words into. I wasn't satisfied with the resolution I was building towards and I just don't know that the story itself adds anything to the world. I won't say I'll never revisit it, but I haven't had a desire to do so.

#WordWeavers Mar. 23: What are you careful about when writing?

I try not to let my own cultural biases poison my stories. There are also elements of my upbringing that I still struggle against, and I try not to let those color my writing, as well.

#ScribesAndMakers 23/3: Do you consider yourself a frood who knows where their towel is?

Not exactly, but on a similar theme, I do have a character in my series of novels who’s an Emergency Response Archaeologist (don’t ask, it’s complicated). Apparently the mark of such a professional is that they always know where their trowel is, making them an archaeologist to be reckoned with.

#WordWeavers 23/3: What are you careful about when writing?
Everything. Though maybe not all at the same time. But I’m careful about grammar and punctuation from the off, because I can’t write any other way, and I check any significant points of fact (the laws of physics, Captain, but also the history and geography of the story world) as I meet them, to avoid wandering down blind alleys and messing things up for later.

#WritersCoffeeClub 23/3: What's the most you've worked on a WIP before deciding to scrap it? What happened?
If I ever ‘scrapped’ anything, it would have been a very long time ago (>30 yrs), before my first real computer, in a purge of paper files. Since then nascent stories and orphan scenes have fairly often been consigned to the digital equivalent of the back of the filing cabinet, but not scrapped.

#PennedPossibilities 965 — What is your MC’s reaction when someone close to them is sick or injured? How do they behave? (Minor spoilers.)

Bolt, my day angel MC, has demonstrated that she will step up and do something a lot in the current story, if I include "sympathetic to" in the "close to them" category. It's one case where her not thinking through what could go wrong works in her favor to make her seem slightly heroic instead of somewhat cowardly. In one case, she rushes a guy via the metro to Health Services because he won't let her fly him there. This is despite the fact that she's a shadow citizen. Because she's in the mob, she's ditched her government ID—she can't even collect basic income—but it's better than being arrested for her crimes. Even so, she risks it to get him cared for. She manages to wiggle out of having to ID herself at the clinic, and sees that he is mended. He still leaves town. Being beat up by her coworker in the mob turns out to have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

#WritersCoffeeClub 3.22 — How do you organise your notes? (No notes?)

I *do* have notes, but they're never as clean as I want. I'm a bit messy but it always gets the job done for me, to be fair. I layout pages and outlines start off so neat in the beginning... If only they stayed that way.

I split my notes up like this:

• Character bios and their backstories
• Breakdown for chapters, their summaries
• Quick ideas I might randomly get at night
• Any and all worldbuilding ideas
• A glossary if it's needed (like for my cyberpunk series)
• Quotes to use for later, again from ideas at night
