On #WorldWaterDay, we spotlight our Sept. 2025 coverage of Zimbabwe, where climate-induced drought has worsened period poverty, leaving women unable to afford menstrual hygiene products.

World Water Day 2026: Why Europe Needs A New Ocean Act

On the occasion of World Water Day, EASAC’s Environment Steering Panel co‑chair Professor Fiona Regan (Ireland) and panel member Professor Lars H. Smedsrud (Norway) reflect on the European Commission’s plan to propose an Ocean Act to strengthen and modernise marine spatial planning and to consolidate ocean‑related targets in a single legislative instrument. They emphasise the need to shift from fragmented policy instruments towards a single, coherent EU ocean framework to better protect the marine environment.
