Just finished my 2024 Glasgow Worldcon viewing, and blogged about the things I got to see via streaming on catchup. https://vivdunstan.dreamwidth.org/604395.html #Glasgow #Worldcon #Worldcon2024 #scifi #fantasy #horror #streaming #convention #fandom #Scotland

Glasgow 2024 – a Worldcon for our Futures – though perhaps not disabled futures.

(Posting this several weeks after the convention partly because I was hoping to have some sort of statement from the conrunners, a statement that at this point does not appear to be forthcoming.) G…

Episode 118 is here! We round off most of our discussion of the Glasgow Worldcon, including talking about Halls 4 and 5, communications, Worldcon structures, and publications. Thanks to Sara Felix, this week, for providing our lovely artwork. Listen here! https://octothorpe.podbean.com/e/118-och-aye-sci-fi/

My beef with D&D may be showing, but I am quite pleased by how many of the RPG panels at #worldcon2024 explicitly point out that D&D is a pretty bad starting RPG - it's more complex than it needs to be, and there's lots of things that are more approachable and more interesting than for newbies.

(I'm catching up with stuff on Worldcon's Replay functionality)

Glasgow 2024, A Worldcon For Our Futures was my first World Science-Fiction Convention. It was an overwhelming, extraordinary experience. It made me think deeply about a lot of things, but especially about self-published authors. I reflect on what I learned there in my latest blog post.

Everything that Worldcon taught me about indie authors that I didn’t know I needed to ask

The Batmobile! What’s that doing in Glasgow? Well, so that was a Worldcon. Oof. I mean, it was wonderful. It was intense. It was people. It was information. It was magic. It was science. It w…

Btw, a very beta version of If I Fran The Con, a f(r)an game for If I Ran the Con and WorldCon 2024 can be played at https://www.scottishrollerderbyblog.com/IfIFranTheCon/ (using github pages hosting, hence the url).
It's very in progress, although it's actually playable so hence published at this point, and my first project in Inkle's Ink.

Comments & pull requests to the repo ( https://github.com/aoanla/IfIFranTheCon ) appreciated.

Ah, Fedi, I have missed you! I’ve been mostly offline the last couple of weeks, due first to #worldcon2024, then #handinhand queer choir festival , both of which were absolutely wonderful. The plan for today is to relax, unpack, and catch up with the #TGCFReadAlong 😊

I've started drawing up a list of key Worldcon programme items I missed so that I can go back and watch the reply of them. I fear I will have to ruthlessly triage this list if I am not to be spending the rest of my life watching recordings of Glasgow Worldcon panels.

Finally looking at the Worldcon Discord with a view to picking up reading suggestions etc. for panels I was interested in and wishing all the panels had their own dedicated Discord space like with the Academic track, as opposed to the room-based splodge there seems to be for everything else.

My feeling is that the performance at Worldcon of Dune The Musical will be eligible for the 2025 Hugo Awards. The musical has been performed previously but that specific performance took place in 2024.
