Every year on July 28, the world unites to raise awareness about viral hepatitis — a silent but deadly disease that causes liver inflammation, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. In 2019 alone, 78,000 people died from acute hepatitis complications, and chronic hepatitis B, C, and D cause over 1 million deaths annually.
This year’s theme emphasizes breaking down barriers like stigma, misinformation, and lack of access to testing and treatment. Simplifying and scaling up hepatitis services is key to eliminating hepatitis as a global health threat by 2030.

- Hepatitis B and C cause over 95% of hepatitis-related deaths worldwide.
