🧠✨ Happy belated National Trivia Day!

We were a little too excited celebrating World Braille Day — but trivia and learning never go out of style. Here’s a fun fact to kick things off:

Braille is based on a six-dot cell, creating 64 possible combinations used for reading, math, music, and technology.

Today we celebrate Braille — a cornerstone of literacy, independence, and access for people who are blind and low vision. From everyday labeling to reading books and using technology, Braille continues to make a difference.

At PCB, we believe access to information is essential.
How does Braille support your independence or daily life? We’d love to hear your experiences.

So since today is #WorldBrailleDay, I thought I'd make a song with #Suno that helps capture what Braille has done for me. Its really hard to articulate exactly how Braille has helped me, because there are countless ways, but I hope this song shows off my feelings about braille so people can understand how important it is to me. Here are the Lyrics for people out there who want to follow along with the song: [Verse 1]
Little bumps beneath my fingers
Whole wide world in every line
Pocket book inside my backpack
Feels like sunlight on my mind
Every page a quiet doorway
Every dot a steady guide
From the classroom to the subway
It has walked right by my side

[Chorus]
Braille has given me the world
Letter by letter
Word by word
I touch the page
And I touch the sky
Every tiny raised mark
Keeps my spirit turned toward light
Braille has given me the world
And it fits beneath my hands tonight

[Verse 2]
Spelling out my name at bedtime
First time that I wrote it down
Love notes folded in my jacket
Little maps of every town
Labels on the jars in kitchens
Stories shared in whispered rooms
All the jokes and all the secrets
Travel under dancing thumbs

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
I can count the ways it’s helped me
But they flow beyond my reach
More than numbers
More than phrases
It’s a language that set me free
So when I trace these tiny mountains
Know I’m walking something true
This is how I read the future
This is how I stand with you

[Chorus]

Today, I was blessed to honor #WorldBrailleDay as my job includes leading the junior and cherub choirs at the #church where I work and #worship. I always like to reward the children with a little something different after they've practiced a lot for a presentation, so today we did names in #Braille and I handed out the Braille alphabet cards from APH. One enthusiastic four-year-old Brailled her name on the Braille writer, and two of our 6th-graders decoded the message at the bottom of the card. They asked some great questions about how we write numbers and punctuation in Braille, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the experience. With my early morning, I've not had the opportunity to attend World Braille Day presentations today, but I'm so grateful to be able to live the message thru my work. I could not do my job as a church musician and leader without Louis Braille and his contribution to our #Blind community. Happy World Braille Day, everyone!
And wow, I love signage that lets me know which bathroom to use #WorldBrailleDay
I'm not a skilled braillist but I try. Today on #WorldBrailleDay I want to emphasize the freedom it gives. I love to have notes on paper that I can read. I love to read books independently myself. I love that when my ears totally shut down, my books are available because I chose to pursue braille literacy. I'm nowhere as literate as I want to be, but I find joy in it. I hope you do to!
