When Bollards Go Bad

Paralyzed cyclist wins $10 million from King County: Back in 2017, a cyclist riding along the Green River Trail in Tacoma hit a bollard, a metal post meant to deter cars, went up and over his handles bars, and landed on his head. He's been paralyzed ever since. In a case against King County, the man contends the bollard "had poor visibility, no warning signs and was installed in an 'unusual' location." The county settled the case for $10 million.

About 10 years ago, bollards in Whitchurch, Hampshire, UK were painted as a community artistic project.

They were splendid.

Time went on, and it was not good for the bollards.

Ones that weren't murdered by drivers began to wear.

This week, all went back to black

A nice Sunday for a bike ride, into town to #Workantile and back.

No close calls.

On the way back, I noted with approval that new bollards are in on North U heading eastbound from S State at the corner of the Diag, which meant that instead of eight (8) cars parking the bike lane like last week, there were zero (0) cars.

Sunset today at 515p, and it was very gray, which meant heading home sooner.
