Sixty seconds on why our Aurora Residency is such an amazing experience. Without doubt the most unique photographic workshop in the Arctic right now :)

I try to keep a record of feedback received from my companions on the tours and workshops. It's hard to pick out just one, but am sharing this one for a few reasons.

It makes me so happy when my travellers "get it". When they appreciate how I design a journey and my efforts to share a passion for photography. Denise gets it. She's also a very good writer it turns out :)

Please have a read!

Here's a little "behind the scenes" from the other night. I needed one or two pictures of myself to help promote the workshop. It's so weird posing for a camera, I do my best work behind the lens instead of in front of it :)

Have spent the best part of two days getting to know my website a little better. Mostly the aurora pages...

I've ended up making new videos for the Aurora Residency, and updating the brochure with photos from this year's workshop.

It takes more time to promote these workshops than actually run them! I'm still working through sharing photos on my website too. Wanna make some changes there. In the meantime, I feel a little less cluttered in my brain. That's a win.

A couple of days ago we had a chat with Hans, who is aged 84 and still fishing. He tells me, "I'm retired, not dead." Hans plans to give up the fishing when he turns 90.

He had a few kinds of fish in his catch on this day, most of which will end up drying on the rack to make stock-fish.

Got up at 3am to drive our group to the airport. Auroras were going off as we packed up the bags. Saw some moose stealing a farmer's hay on the drive. Two weeks of intense photography and sharing is now over.

These workshops push me. They force me to be the best I can be, because I don't want to let anyone down. I want my companions to get beautiful winter weather, clear nights with nordlys and a taste of the most delicious local cuisine.

I want them to come to Norway and feel like they've had an utterly unique experience that nobody else has ever had. And this workshop was just that.

Anyhoo, here's a few shots from the final daytime outing, about 24 hours ago. Feels like a lifetime ago.

I have a tonne of editing to do. By which I mean a tonne of working out what is worth keeping so I can reclaim a few TB of space on the disk!

When we headed out today for a short shoot I just had my 40mm F2 on the Lumix S9. So when we came across such amazing light I had to make a panorama... so sometimes my photography is better when I get lazy.

Before things got proper dark and the snow got proper busy, I managed to land a moment of calmness, shooting out across the fjord to Grov.

This is easily one of my favourite moments of the entire winter this year. Can't really explain why. It makes me feel like I belong here.

These frames hopefully give you a sense of what is happening behind that scene. It's getting very dark, so there's considerable contrast between the snow flakes caught in the light, and the night around us.

I've included one shot of the jetty, which catches a smudge of light from the surrounding environs, and the volume of snow painting in the rest of the scene. I'm using a Harlowe Blade 10 propped on a $20 light stand that I bought in Kathmandu :) It's just a very clean LED light that lets me set daylight or any other temp/colour I might desire.
