Bossware is booming, but evidence shows it doesn't boost productivity — only increasing stress, disengagement, and injuries. Its widespread use reveals an imbalance of power and a focus on control rather than trust or performance.

Meta is installing tracking software on US employees' computers to capture mouse movements, keystrokes, and screen activity. This data trains AI agents designed to "primarily do the work" while humans "direct and review." The same 8,000 workers providing training data face layoffs starting May 20. The system runs only in the US - EU privacy laws would block it. A notable shift from AI-as-copilot to workers-as-trainers. #AI #WorkplaceSurveillance #TechLayoffs

Meta Lays Off 8,000 in May. First They Train the Agents That Replace Them.

Meta's new Model Capability Initiative will sit on every U.S. employee's computer, capturing mouse, clicks, keystrokes, and screen snapshots. The data feeds the agents Meta is building to take the work. May 20, the company starts cutting 8,000 jobs. The pledge that the data won't drive performance reviews is technically true and structurally meaningless. Inside the closed loop where workers train their replacements, then learn whether they made the next training run.

Algorithmic management (2026) is not efficiency; it's a digital cage for human agency. When your boss is a black-box model, collective resistance is the only debugger. We must pivot from being passive recipients of code to active auditors of the algorithms that govern our labor. Subvert the data, reclaim the time. #AlgorithmicResistance #WorkplaceSurveillance #LaborRights #ReVolt

What I also see a lot in my current research on #peopleanalytics is that #privacy at the #workplace increasingly becomes a privilege for the ranks of the upper management. Privacy should neither be given to you as a commodity or a status symbol, I think it is weird that we have to point that out.

"You mention the manager wants to see if the employee is really working, I mean, is the manager really working if they're just looking at these screenshots [of employees' desktops] all day?"
