Every time this gets me.

I pick up my phone to see I have a notification - it's a message from preschool. My heart sinks, fearing an illness and they want us to get him early or something worse.

Then I open it and see a picture of cupcake ingredients. They're asking if it's okay he has this because they're celebrating a birthday.

We're in the final three days of our 10-day stay-at-home spring vacation. For most of my son's life, I haven't had enough PTO to take off much of his winter, spring, or summer breaks. But this year, I managed to finally save up enough, thanks to my new boss at my day job, to do April vacay. Right now, my son and I are talking about the video game he's been building in with such care. These convos are so meaningful, and I love being with him.

Dropping L off at nursery this morning was horrific. She cried and ran back towards me and had to be scooped up by a member of staff. My heart cracked. I felt like a failure and that I was failing her. We turned the corner and looked through the window and she was already happy and smiling and distracted by the other kiddos and the prospect of breakfast. I know she’s fine. I know she’s better than fine and is enjoying herself and loving nursery. But the drop offs hurt so much and leave me feeling drowned in guilt.
