Four little oak dishes from scraps. They're all about 13 cm across. Two are flat plates, and two bowls. One of the plates is only 9 mm tall!

Another sunny mild day, so I got the lathe out again.
Got the step by step instructions and an appropriate sized piece of Walnut and made this little thing. About 9cm by 6cm.
With some guidance the students should be able to complete the project in the allotted time.

er det vel ikke så mange nå som ser særlig verdi i. Men blir det slutt på bensin, slik det ble under krigen, kommer den kanskje tilbake?

Da var or populær til knott i generatoren. Den utvikler gass under riktig trekk – og den brenner fort og effektivt i ovnen uten spraking og leven.

Den kløver lett også, er min favoritt i vedkløyveren om våren. Bortsett da, fra der det har vokst ut mange store greiner fra stammen. Da blir det krangling.

I år plukket jeg ut en slik kabbe til eksperiment på dreiebenken. Dette er gråor (grey alder), uten de spennende årringene som den dreiepopulære svartora har. Gråor derimot ikke mye brukt hos tredreiere.

Uspennende – men også mykere. Selv greinene ga liten motstand på dreiebenken. Trikset blir, for å unngå sprekk i greinenes endeved, å dreie rått og så tynt som mulig. Her ca 5 mm. Jo tynnere jo mykere og medgjørlig i tørkeprosessen Da vil det kanskje gå bra?

I’m going to assist at an adult education class that my woodturning club puts on every month.
I usually assist for the open shop we host earlier the same day but the usual evening assistants are unavailable so I switched.
It’s a step by step project, and I need to practice that beforehand. Today was really nice, sunny and cool so I dragged my mini lathe out in the driveway and turned some wood.
These are not the project, just some muscle memory work. A 8" maple dish and a cherry spin top.
I have a week, so given more nice days. I will drag the lathe out again.
Plus it will get me in the mood to clean out the garage and get my big lathes back in action.
