"Shape follows function": Starting point for a career in wood technology

Franziska Seeber studied Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Currently she works as a research assistant at the Professorship of Wood Technology, Department of Materials Engineering at the TUM School of Engineering and Design. There she researches the structure and mechanical characteristics of wood. In numerical models that combine data-based and physical knowledge, she analyses the behaviour of wood as a building material. In the interview, she tells us about her fascination for construction - from building blocks in childhood to detailed computer simulations of glued laminated timber in her doctoral thesis.
