Watching the MD of Greenview council meeting today and they’ve been reviewing their policies. Coming up shortly, a discussion on access to information.

Their “Right of Access” policy has some surprising reasons they may refuse to disclose, including if the info may:

🚫 harm inter-governmental relations
🚫 reveal advice, proposals, recommendation, analyses or policy options developed by or for the MD
🚫 cause harm to the economic interests of Greenview or the Alberta Government
🚫 reveal information relating to testing or auditing procedures
🚫 reveal information that is already or will be made available to the public within 60 business days

I'm wondering if that is compliant with the Access to Information Act?

According to architecture and design firm Gensler, Wonder Valley Alberta is “designed to capture and sequester 100% of carbon from on-site natural gas power generation,” and “the project dramatically reduces operational emissions at an unprecedented scale.”

That’s quite the claim!??

There’s no carbon capture mentioned in the Wonder Valley project description filed with the Alberta government. Even the marketing materials do not claim to have CCS.

“Carbon-capture-ready power generation” sounds a lot like...#greenwashing

Wonder Valley

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation is calling for a federal environmental impact assessment on Kevin O’Leary’s Wonder Valley project after a study suggests the 9 GW data centre and power plant could release massive amounts of heat in an area already struggling with drought.

The scientist who did the study called the new class of hyperscale AI data centres “Gigascale AI Smelters, smelting data and material strip-mined from people and planet.”

The report was released just as the first Wonder Valley open house was held near Grande Prairie and dozens of people showed up with questions and concerns.

The project was announced in December of 2024 but has been stalled since then. Now, it appears to be moving forward, despite concerns of local First Nations.

Read more about this AI mega-project that's the size of 130 West Edmonton Malls in my breaking news story for The Energy Mix.

Utah is a case study in how NOT to announce and build a hyperscale data centre.

Opposition is so significant that lawmakers who once supported the project are backtracking, with one politician even demanding Kevin O’Leary scale the project back by 75%.

Here’s an updated summary of what’s been going on in Utah, with some updates on Alberta’s Wonder Valley project ahead of an open house planned for this evening in a small hamlet near Grande Prairie.

The MD of Greenview still won’t answer my questions. O’Leary’s proxy in Alberta also did not answer my questions…and oh yeah, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner is officially now investigating whether the Premier’s office fulfilled its duties with my Access to Information request.

There are some excellent researchers/writers out there looking into Kevin O'Leary and Wonder Valley and I so appreciate them!

The Wonder Valley Files, Part 1: Big Promises, Suspicious Numbers

Was Kevin O'Leary making promises he never intended to keep?

The MD of Greenview has a regular council meeting today. The agenda includes an update on Kevin O’Leary’s Wonder Valley project but…of course, they are going into closed session because of “disclosure harmful to business interests of a third party.”

Transparency on what is happening with O’Leary’s AI data centre in Alberta has not been good with this council. Their media team doesn’t answer questions and the Reeve has declined multiple requests for an interview.

In other news, an open house in the nearby community of Grovedale is planned for June 4. Greenview announced it on Facebook but said they are not hosting or organizing it.

If you know of anyone who is attending the open house, I am looking for residents to interview.

Checking my notes: I went back and reread an interview I did about Wonder Valley Utah. And I followed up with an Alberta official who now says he may have been “misinformed” about Utah.

Opposition Mounts as O’Leary’s Data Centre Approved in Drought-Stricken Utah

Written for The Energy Mix - May 14, 2026 - with bonus images, a Canada Pension Plan connection and Kevin O'Leary does not have a lot of fans in Utah right now

The Missive

A week after Utah Senate President Stuart Adams signed off on the Stratos AI data centre via his role as chair of the Military Installation Development Authority, his Political Action Committee (PAC) received $135,000 from five different companies/individuals who have done business with MIDA in the past.

There’s no evidence any have a direct connection to O’Leary’s AI data centre but they include construction companies, electrical contractors and developers.

Each made $20-40,000 donations, doubling the amount the PAC already had in its bank account.

“Adams is fighting for his political life in the most competitive re-election campaign of his career.”

Stuart Adams PAC received $135,000 from MIDA-connected donors days after approving controversial data center

Utah Senate President Stuart Adams' political action committee collected $135,000 from five MIDA-connected donors in a single day — the five largest donations in the PAC's history — just days after Adams chaired the approval of Kevin O'Leary's controversial 40,000-acre data center in northern Utah.

Utah Political Watch

Kevin O'Leary has combined the Utah project with the Alberta project together on ONE website.

That's...unique.
