“The clear allusions to the decorative hold a deeper meaning. The historical function of the female has often been reduced to this decorative role. Fabrics and textiles have been the realm of the woman. By placing physical fragments of the female creator amongst these textiles, the emphasis is on the way she handles herself in this reality. Will she transcend or will she drown?”

ARCHIVE Unlearn I, oil on linen, 100 x 100 cm, 2021

Conceived for the exhibition State of Things at K.L.8. in May 2021, this first canvas of a series, shows a piece of the body of the artist. This unconventional type of self portrait presents physical remnants that almost feel archeological.
