It didn’t take them long. After years of welcoming trans people into cricket, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) rushed through a ban on trans women playing women’s cricket just two weeks after April 2025’s Supreme Court ruling. The board has driven this ban through at all levels of the game, even for amateur clubs and leagues who want to stay inclusive. A ban doesn’t just risk isolating trans people – it risks outing them. How are they supposed to explain to their teams why they suddenly can’t play?
