#PortlandME - This Thursday! Open to the public!

"Dear USM Community,

The Office of Student Engagement and Belonging invites you to our #BannedBookFair on Thursday, March 13, from 2–3:30 PM in the McGoldrick Center, 2nd floor lobby.

In partnership with #USMLibraries, #WomenAndGenderStudies, #MaineTransNet, and #BooksAMillion, this event highlights the power of books that have been challenged or banned.

You’ll find:

- Tables of commonly banned books: explore their impact, purchase a copy from #BAM, or learn how to check them out through our #libraries.
- MaineTransNet will be offering resources and information on supporting #LGBTQ+ communities.
- Lecha Bubble Tea will be selling their iconic drinks, including their famous Thai Iced Tea.

Join us in celebrating the freedom to read and engage in meaningful conversations about #censorship and representation.

We look forward to seeing you there!"

I don't know if anybody who follows me is also a member of the Women and Gender Studies Section of @ala_acrl but if you are, the Membership Committee is organizing a Community Cafe for members to get to know each other and play a little spooky trivia. It's October 30th at 1pmEST! Bring a hot (or cold!) fall drink, a snack, and your trivia brain! #ACRL #AcademicLibraries #WomenAndGenderStudies

Oh, also episode 3.2 "Thinking about how we think about animals with Dr Chloë Taylor" is live to our Patreon supporters today! In this episode, @arielkroon discusses the nuances of "animal rights" and "critical animal studies" (and much, much more!) with Dr Chloë Taylor, professor in the department of women and gender studies (and formerly the philosophy department) at the University of Alberta.

You can subscribe to our Patreon to support us and get early access to episodes and content written by @xtinadlr and myself here: https://www.patreon.com/solarpunkpresents

The episode will be publicly available to everyone next week, so stay tuned!

Does anyone know of journals that might accept/are looking for reviews of Hugh Ryan’s “The Women’s House of Detention” and Mariame Kaba and Andrea J. Ritchie’s “No More Police”? I have to review three books for a final project, and the other is “Incarcerated Resistance” by Anya Stanger for Gender & Society.
