@jzb I stand by your refusal to give grade inflation on music.

When I tell folks who you are, I retell about that talk you gave when you worked for SuSE (I think?) where you talked about how your career goal as a child was to be Johnny Fever from #WKRP in Cincinnati.

I'm sure you have no time for it, but man, if you did a weekly 1 hr free-form music show, I'd listen every week.

The discerning DJ is the pre-taster for us all.

I bought the first season but then when I got to the end, found that the remaining seasons don't exist anywhere for any amount of money.

The optional way is available, but I don't have a media server set up.

@toiletpaper@shitposter.world You need an amusement park. Herbland. Herb could be the mascot. #WKRP

Cheeky baseline. The star of the show. Upstaging the rest of the song!

WKRP IN Cincinnati (OPENING THEME SONG) 1978 HQ

YouTube

I wish Red Hot Chili Peppers had done a song based on the WKRP theme baseline.

That baseline basically needs to be franchised and licensed to other songs. A new genre built on that one baseline.

That baseline in WKRP's theme song is 🔥.

My only complaint is that during the opening, where they have someone spinning through the radio and getting funny random voice clips before the song plays... I want those to be different every time.

But that sort of thing was a much later innovation in TV.

Wow, right out the gate, in the first non-pilot episode, WKRP tackles both gay AND trans issues. With some surprisingly advanced views of these topics for 1978.

It ALSO tackles workplace sexual harassment, in a certain way. This topic seems to be complex on this show, and I'm not sure where it's going, but I like that in this episode, not only is one male character unhappy with how Jennifer is treated, he does something to protect her.

It's flawed by today's standards, because the writers were trying to do the right thing with what they had at the time, so it's in a way that makes it thought-provoking. They're exploring ground in a way that would be uncomfortable to do today.

Also the characters seem like they might be multifaceted and deep for a show like this.
