In 2018, a rape trial took place in Ireland, in which the defence lawyer claimed that the victim’s underwear was evidence that she had not been raped: “Does the evidence out-rule the possibility that she was attracted to the defendant and was open to meeting someone and being with someone? You have to look at the way she was dressed. She was wearing a thong with a lace front.”

Ill Eye, Ill Tongue (2012)

Created in response to the 400-year anniversary of the Lancashire Witch Trials, this piece incorporates ideas of religious syncretism and apotropaic magic, taking influence from “witch bottles” said to protect a person or place. The written elements are taken from six religious texts. The bottles contain hair, fingernails, bent iron pins and white wine.
