Embracing Your Inner Winter: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times

Some seasons of life don’t explode into crisis; they simply go quiet.

So I've been studying the wolf pack, and they have the perfect model for true leadership.

We often think leadership means being Alpha and charging ahead. Nope. That's 3D dominance energy. The wolf pack model is pure 5D structural integrity.

When they travel, the strongest wolves aren't at the front; they’re protecting the flanks and the rear.

The eldest or weakest often set the sustainable pace. Why? Because the system's job is to ensure everyone thrives, not just the fastest.

This rotational service is Kindness (Akahai) as the foundational code. If we architect our teams this way—prioritizing People > Platforms—we achieve resilient success every time. It’s all about service, not status.

I see why @AnnaG31 likes wolves. And now that I"ve learned this about wolf packs, I too appreciate them!

For me, December begins winter. The process of stepping back and retreating to reflect on the year that has passed, and the year to come.

The book *Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times* is a must-read for connecting with the seasons and valuing being here.

I once read that having a large bookshelf filled with unread books is akin to having a wine cellar filled with various types of wine: you’ll have the right thing for the right occasion.

Now reading “Wintering” by Katherine May.

It’s been sitting on my bookshelf, waiting for a blustery, wintry, cold, snowy night.

Made myself some hot chocolate and I’m sitting in a cozy chair.

Flamingos überwintern in Apulien hauptsächlich in geschützten Feuchtgebieten wie La Cesine. Dort finden sie milde Bedingungen und ausreichend Nahrung, was diese Region zum wichtigen Lebensraum für die Vögel macht.

Just Stop Oil to ‘hang up the hi-vis’ after three years of climate action.

This too is sad. Of course movements have to change, and do; JSO itself grew out of XR and no doubt did have a finite lifetime. But I mourn the optimism and determination, the belief that you can make a difference. Having said that: It’s not over forever! We are all just #wintering at the moment, having to figure out what to do next.

Resolutions are not goals, but the tone for making oneself resolute. Instead of setting a goal, set three tones for the year, which will help you stay resolute. For me I am thinking: equilibrium, self-development and continuity. #resolutions #2025resolutions #tone #wintering #seasonalliving

Today's Midwestern outerwear for errands is the shockingly ugly, blaze orange,🟧 down storm coat. A gift to me when I was still hiking in woods with giant, furry dogs in the winter. Orange, so we would not get shot by hunters. It repels people and animals and is extremely unflattering but hooded and very warm. Also, many pockets for dog treats. Baby, it's cold outside. #Wintering
