Kasia Adamczyk | Swiss Travels | Photography on Instagram: "I got so many messages saying, “Wt# is this? 😳” after I posted the car train on Saturday - from people outside Switzerland 🇨🇭 who had never seen this kind of transport before. That inspired me to create this reel because, honestly, this was exactly my face when I first studied the holiday route on Google Maps a few months after moving to Switzerland. 🇨🇭🫠 Back then, I had no idea that Google Maps uses a ship icon ⛴️ to indicate car transport routes - no matter what type they are - just because ferries are the most common way to transport vehicles 🚗 worldwide. But in Switzerland, the “ferry” is actually a car train 🚊 - and in winter, when mountain passes are closed, these trains are often the only way to get from one place to another. Car trains aren’t cheap - a single ride often costs over 30 CHF, with some reaching nearly 100 CHF 😳. Expect heavy traffic during holidays and weekends! Here are a few of them: 1️⃣ Furka Car Train • Connects Oberwald (Valais) to Realp (Uri) 2️⃣ Lötschberg Car Train • Runs between Kandersteg (Bernese Oberland) and Goppenstein (Valais) 3️⃣ Simplon Car Train • Connects Brig (Valais) to Iselle (Italy) 4️⃣ Vereina Car Train • Operates between Prättigau and Sagliains (Lower Engadine) 5️⃣ Kandersteg–Iselle Car Train • A direct route between Kandersteg (Bernese Oberland) and Iselle (Italy), combining Lötschberg and Simplon routes What about you? Who else was surprised when studying Swiss routes on Google Maps? 🤭 . . . . . #szwajcaria #switzerland #cartrain #swisstravel #livinginswitzerland"
