It was sunny yesterday and cloudy the day before in that part of Greater Houston I live in, but they had two things I did not like: they were dry days. There should have been snow, ice, frost, or anything involving frozen water. Bwagh, here's hoping that February will bring something rare (and safe) in our subtropical climate.

We’ve lived here since 1989 and this is the worst snow to shovel I’ve encountered. We only got about 6 inches of snow, but it was followed by at least an inch of sleet. Temperatures are not supposed to get above freezing all week. My adult son came by (he lives elsewhere in DC and had to take his partner to the airport) and he and I managed to clear our steps and sidewalk. Had to use a gardening shovel with a square end to break the worst of the ice. Took us an hour. Then we helped a neighbor clear her walkway. DC is going to be a mess all week.
