And after the longest night,
A light gently rises,
Casting a warm glow,
In winter's embrace,
New hopes and wisdom,
A tapestry of peace,
May the season of change radiate crystals of bliss. Β©οΈ

...huh. Well! Sorry for the end of the food-blogging, but, er, things kind of got away from me.
The gumbo, featuring chicken, andouille, and crawfish, was a HIT.
The egg nog was finished communally, with party guests taking turns whipping the egg whites together with the cream until a plausibly "fluffy" state was achieved.
The last minute "Shit! Not enough vegetarian options!" red beans & rice was appreciated...

"If you have a heavy meat grinder, your work is half done. It not, prepare to slice okra as thin as possible." -Wanda Frey, OKRA (Summer Preparation for Winter Gumbo), p. 64, TALK ABOUT GOOD! (1969)
I may never be able to prepare myself sufficiently for this. Whatever. 1.25 lb okra, sliced and stewing.
Happy Winter Solstice!
